SHAYKH MUHAMMAD GIBRIMA: A PROLIFIC 'THEOLOGICAL&MYSTICAL' WRITER




SHAYKH MUHAMMAD GIBRIMA: AN ACCOMPLISHED AUTHOR OF SEVERAL BOOKS

{Contribution of Shaykh Muhammad Gibrima to the Development of Islamic Institution}

 In his book:
A Scholar of his Generation: The Life and Times of Sheikh Muhammad Gibrima (1902 - 1975), Chapter5 "pages84-91"


 This scholar (Shaykh Muhammad Gibrima) had contributed more than any islamic cleric in Nguru, especially in the field of writing on many topics in Islam.

Some were published here at home, while other works were prepared outside the country.

In various libraries today, both national and international, the writings of Shaykh Muhammad Gibrima are there in the shelves.

More interesting but disheartening to students of Islamic knowledge, is the inability to get many of his works which remain unpublished. Probably he died in an attempt to fulfill that.

However, some of his compilations, though in Arabic, include the following:-

The list/rough-sketch of publications put down (above) are only one-third of his work. There are many unpublished written materials that could not be published before Allah took him away.

SHAYKH MUHAMMAD GIBRIMA: A GLOBAL ACADEMIC DOYEN OF ISLAM AND AN INVESTOR

His various writings had brought him into direct contact with various world Islamic institutions like Al-Azhar University where some of his books are still relevant in their rich library.

Besides this, ...he was an importer of latest Islamic publications to Nigeria especially books written by the scholars of Baghdad, Beirut, Cairo, Sudan and Saudi-Arabia. None of these islamic-oriented societies could forget about Shaykh Muhammad Gibrima.

The volume of books imported to Nigeria by this scholar had led to the establishment of many Islamic bookshops where various books were been sold.

This great effort also motivated some of his disciples, like Alhaji Mohammad Sani Kurna to play a remarkable role in this field by importing Arabic and Islamic studies books which the compulsory system of learning in Kano city (of Nigeria) had been greatly beneficial to especially in the late 60s and 70s.

Conclusion

Books written on several areas (by Shaykh Muhammad Gibrima) could be found, though in Arabic form. It only needs the tireless work of our Islamic interpreters/translators of today to translate such voluminous works, so that the clear contributions of Shaykh Muhammad Gibrima would once again come into light (in this contemporary age).

There is need to revive the attempt being done by him, so that the society will gain much exploits from his reservoir of Knowledge in Islamic field.
